Mentoring Committee Report, 2013

Mentoring programme at Fazl Ali College has been going on since the year 2007. It was visionary or farsightedness of the College to have felt the need of this exercise that even the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) came up with the requirement of this programme implementation in Colleges. Not only that the mentoring programme in the College has won points for getting the College accredited in the year 2009 with ‘B’ Grade but it has also benefitted a number of students in moulding their character and clearing doubts and question in personal life and their career paths.

Under this programme 11-13 students are allotted to each of the faculty members in the College as Mentors and each Mentor takes care of the students/mentees as foster-parent by providing guidance, counselling and advice in any area of life, especially in academics as per the need expressed by the mentees.

During the year 2013 the College conducted two organised meetings between the mentors and mentees, first on 18th July and the second on 24th October where the students/mentees were given opportunity to share thoughts and problems with their mentors and receive appropriate help and advice from them. Besides, the students are also encouraged to seek and meet their respective mentors at any time as per their need. Many students are benefitting a great deal from this programme.

A workshop for Mentors was also held on 30th July. The resource persons in this workshop were Dr. Dipesh Bhagabati, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry, Gauhati Medical College and Dr. Ramesh Chandra Borpatragohain, Professor, Department of Law, Gauhati University, Guwahati. Dr. Bhagabati spoke on the topics, Psychological Problems of the Youth and Stress Management and Dr. Borpatragohain spoke on the topic, Role of Mentors in respect of Relationship between Men, Society and Nature. This workshop was very successful as many participants expressed how immensely they were benefitted from it.
