March 13: Fazl Ali College organized an awareness programme on “E-Waste Management” as part of its week-long e-waste collection drive conducted from March 9 to 12, 2026. The initiative was organized in collaboration with E-Circle and sponsored by Earth Alliance, with the aim of promoting awareness about the environmental and health impacts of electronic waste and encouraging responsible disposal and recycling practices.
The session was moderated by Ms. Chubamenla Chang, Assistant Professor, who briefly introduced the background of the e-waste collection drive and highlighted the need for responsible waste management in an increasingly technology-driven society.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. I. Wati Imchen, Principal of Fazl Ali College, emphasized the importance of environmental awareness and responsible handling of electronic waste. He noted that without vision and collective effort, meaningful environmental progress cannot be achieved. He also shared his vision of developing Fazl Ali College into an eco-friendly campus by effectively utilizing available resources and encouraging responsible environmental practices.
The resource person for the session, Ms. Bendangwala Walling, co-founder of E-Circle, spoke on the increasing presence of electronic waste in everyday life due to the rapid use of technology. She explained the key principles of responsible e-waste management-reduce, reuse, segregate, recycle and recover; while highlighting the environmental and health hazards associated with improper disposal of electronic devices. The session also included a discussion on the different methods of managing end-of-life electronic products, including refurbishing, recycling and treatment through authorized facilities such as TSDFs (Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities). Referring to the E-Waste Management Rules introduced in 2011, she stressed the importance of public awareness and cautioned against handing over e-waste to unauthorized agents. Highlighting the shared responsibility of both producers and consumers, it focused on the need to move towards a circular economy rather than a linear system of consumption.
She also introduced E-Circle, established in 2018 as Nagaland’s first authorized e-waste collection centre, and its recycling partnership with Hulladek in Kolkata, encouraging responsible disposal practices with the message, “Sabko Batao, E-Waste Ghatao.” The session concluded with an appeal to channel electronic waste through authorized recyclers and to promote responsible disposal practices within the community.
