A two-day Workshop on “Basics of Canva Design and Magazine Layout” was successfully organized by the Quill Magazine Committee under the Department of English, Fazl Ali College, on the 17th and 18th of September 2026. Sponsored by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Fazl Ali College, the workshop aimed to equip students and participants with essential design skills, typography awareness, editorial capabilities, and hands-on proficiency in digital publishing tools.

Resource Persons:

The sessions were delivered by experienced individuals who brought both practical design knowledge:

  • Mr. Akangmeren Aier – Product Designer, Industrial Design Graduate from National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh
  • Dr. Limasenla Jamir – Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Fazl Ali College
Program Structure & Content:

The workshop was structured into two sessions per day over the two-day period. Each day followed a balanced pedagogical framework consisting of theoretical instruction in the first session, followed by practical, hands-on interactive sessions in the second session.

Key Focus Areas Covered:
  • Fundamentals and Principles of Graphic Design: Participants were introduced to visual hierarchy, color theory, balance, alignment, and composition required for creating professional publications.
  • Typography: Guidance was provided on font selection, pair management, readability, and the role typography plays in guiding reader engagement in print and digital media.
  • Proofreading and Editorial Basics: Essential skills in reviewing text, error correction, and maintaining stylistic consistency across magazine pages were emphasized.
  • Technical Mastery of Canva: Hands-on training on the Canva platform, focusing on tools, grid systems, custom layout creation, asset integration, and preparing files for magazine production.

Outcome and Conclusion:

The interactive sessions enabled participants to directly apply theoretical concepts to create practical designs and sample magazine layouts. The hands-on guidance provided by the resource persons allowed attendees to address real-time design and technical layout challenges.

The workshop concluded with appreciation expressed towards the resource persons for a highly impactful and skill-enriching event.
