The 7th PSA Annual Lecture, organized by the Political Science Association (PSA), Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, was held on 24th October 2025 in observance of United Nations Day at the college conference hall.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Innazenla Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science. The lecture was delivered by Ms. Imnasenla Shanbur Jamir, Technical Consultant, World Bank Health, Nutrition and Population, on the theme “Resilient Futures: Advancing the Health – Climate Agenda in the SDG Era – Reflections on UN Day.” She began by highlighting the significance of United Nations Day and how the UN serves as the only global platform where every nation, big or small, has a voice. She spoke about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and India’s and also Nagaland’s contributions through the Nagaland SDG Vision Document. Drawing from her work in the development sector, she shared how her team supports the Government of Nagaland in capacity building, effective programme management, documentation of best practices, and research on climate-health vulnerability, particularly focusing on the effects of climate change on health and the need to provide better healthcare services to disadvantaged communities.
She encouraged students to rethink career options in Political Science, explaining that while the subject provides the lens to understand systems, the development sector offers the tools to transform them. She described Political Science as a discipline rooted in policy, governance, and empathy, emphasizing that it equips students to solve real-world problems. She also presented various emerging global career pathways, including development consulting, global policy and research, climate and sustainability governance, social impact and NGOs, CSR and ESG, and data, technology, and governance. She urged students to build cross – disciplinary knowledge, seek international exposure through fellowships and internships, gain practical experience with NGOs and think tanks, and develop digital fluency in data, visualization, and AI literacy. She reminded the students that their degree is not their destiny, it is their curiousity that widens the road ahead for their career. The session ended with an interactive question-and – answer session followed by a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Chairlady.
