The 8th PSA Annual Lecture, organised by the Political Science Association (PSA), Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, was held on 26 October 2026 on the theme “Stronger Together: Renewing the Promise of the United Nations,” in observance of United Nations Day. The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Lipokrenla, HOD, Political Science, who also delivered the introductory note.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Madhavi R., IAS, Assistant Commissioner, okokchung, who reflected on the history and continuing relevance of the United Nations. Established on 24 October 1945, the UN was founded to maintain international peace and security and promote cooperation among nations. The lecture explored the importance of multilateralism in addressing global challenges such as climate change, conflict and inequality. Emphasising that the architecture of cooperation rests on unity rather than uniformity, Dr. Madhavi highlighted the need for nations to work together while respecting their differences. She observed that the spirit of the United Nations extends beyond international institutions, noting that even a village coming together to address a crisis embodies the principles of collective responsibility and cooperation. Dr. Madhavi further emphasised that renewing the promise of the United Nations requires adapting the ideals of 1945 to the realities of 2026. She underscored the importance of moving beyond individual interests towards a collective outlook, observing that civilisation progresses when societies shift from “me” to “we.” India’s contribution to UN peacekeeping missions was also highlighted, alongside the importance of dialogue and mutual trust. Reflecting on the context of Northeast India, the lecture highlighted the importance of respecting cultural diversity while pursuing shared aspirations.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were discussed in relation to inclusive development and the collective responsibility of nations to build a sustainable future. She also commented on the spirit of “Stronger Together,” reaffirming the enduring significance of cooperation, mutual understanding and a shared commitment to human dignity. The programme ended with an interactive question and answer session.
